Legal definitions

A geographical Indication (GI)

Any reference to identify a product as originating in a territory, region or locality, where a given quality, reputation or other essential characteristic of the product is related to the geographical origin of the (item 180).

Appellation of origin (AO)

Geographical denomination of a country, region, or locality, referring to a product whose quality, reputation or characteristics that are the result solely of the geographical environment (natural and human factors) (item 181).
